Sword & buckler tips: 1. Keep the buckler extended to maximize its defensive silhouette. 2. Use the buckler the protect the sword hand — don’t cut beyond it. 3. When you have to withdraw the buckler (for example to allow for preparation of a shoulder cut) extend the buckler ahead of the cut to protect the hand and maximize defense.
