Sep 21, 2023 · Winterplace isnt worth the drive, at all, in my opinion. I went once on a crazy powder day and half the mountain was closed and the greens were so flat it was hard to even ski down and not sink in the snow. And the other thing is winterplace can be packed with groups of kids. Its like the church/scout/school group resort of the southeast.

Winterplace is great for day trips (little over an hour away). If you have the money and time, Snowshoe is far more impressive, but 3.5 hour drive. Snowshoe's villiage is also fun, with things to do at night instead of sleep at 8 pm.

Oct 6, 2023 · Wintergreen has more vertical, 1000' vs 600'. I've never been to Winterplace, but it should have more natural snow in WV. Wintergreen was challenged to stay open last season, and closed in early March. That said, Wintergreen has decent skiing for the south when it's all open. The beginner area can get quite busy on weekends.

Dec 5, 2018 · It's bigger and nicer than Winterplace but the times I've been it's been a lot more crowded too and it's more expensive. It's definitely worth going to if the conditions look good. I assume you're in Charlotte, and Google Maps said Wintergreen is only 40 minutes longer of a drive from Charlotte than Winterplace.

Any ski resort is going to be a little pricy, but If you guys are beginners you're not going to get a lot of use out of snowshoe's extra trails and such. The rental shop (where I used to work) has skiing and beginner/advanced snowboarding options.

How would you rank the resorts found in WV, VA, NC, TN, and I guess AL too since they have one. Snowshoe, Winterplace, Beech Mountain, and Sugar Mountain come to mind as some of the better ones in the region.

Feb 16, 2014 · Compared the trail maps of each resort and it looks like Wintergreen is the way to go. One half of the whole mountain is blacks and double blacks, so that should weed out any slow beginners and make for a more enjoyable experience, also each lift is at a different part of the base so it shouldn't be as crowded.

Winterplace does do better on snow than NC, but in a typical season, the terrain and lifts at sugar and beech are far greater than winterplace.
