Jul 9, 2012 · We'll get you to the ICU where they can throw you on CVVH, 4 pressors, a bicarb drip, etc etc depending on condition! But hey, maybe that's just the way things are done here. The -vast- majority of patients can be stabilized for a reasonable amount of time before transfer.
Operative management of peritonitis in ICU patients
May 17, 2020 · Just curious to hear how your hospital's surgeons manage peritonitis in ICU patients? I have a young guy who had perforated + feculent peritonitis from diverticulitis. He had a hartmann's and washout and weeks later still on low dose pressors with ongoing fevers, sepsis, CRP in the 400s etc...

Jun 25, 2006 · I did an ICU rotation and did fine with U2D, Step Up, and asking questions/listening to lectures from the residents and attendings. I didn't have a great understanding of fluids (I/O, which to use, etc) until I did the ICU rotation. I learned a lot about shock, vents, overdoses, pressors, antibiotics from the rotation.

Jun 18, 2006 · ICU is a great rotation to do because by the end of the rotation you will actually understand the vent and be more familiar with drugs like pressors and paralytic agents. And depending on your residents, you may get to do central lines - I did about 5 or 6 on my rotation.

Feb 7, 2011 · +1 on both Acid/Base and Surviving Sepsis as high-yield pre-ICU studying. Don't get all hung up on learning vent settings, pressors and empiric antibiotic choices since it will all be different based on who your attending is. That's the stuff to learn at the bedside anyway. I started internship in the ICU. Didn't know squat.

Jul 4, 2012 · Urge, my guess your ICU is the "old" model in which the intensivist is usually consulted for vent management or once the patient has been mismanaged to the point of no return. The intensivist gets paid for the consult and probably has a patient load of 20-30 patients so consults all the other problems besides the vent just to keep up.

Sep 27, 2018 · Every ICU I’ve been in, the nurses will put all blouses on a pump at max rate, which is still too slow for someone with very brisk bleeding. Just the other week I saw someone “being resuscitated” trying to give boluses through a TLC in the femoral, while the perfect 16G IV in the AC had propofol hooked up and was neglected.

Dec 14, 2005 · I'd review some about management of hypotension, surviving sepsis, tachycardia, fever, hemodynamic monitoring, fluid management, basic vent management, pressors, and anti-hypertensives for some basics. I wouldn't worry too much, attending and senior residents should know you are a newbie in the ICU.
