Which is typically referred to as the most reliable out of the three entries because it is hardcoded and unique to the network card itself (hence won't change unless the physical unit is replaced).

There are lots apps, just google "measure data usage in mac os x". I recommended activity monitor cause its free and already installed on your mac. Instead on a restart just record what your stats are at the beginning of your test and deduct them at the end, say in a week. –
