2012年11月12日 · I second the opinion that the anvil is a "Kohlswa" Swedish made anvil. Kohlswa made anvils in what were called the "London Pattern". They made them out of a manganese alloy steel. This steel work hardens, and Kohlswa anvils that are used a lot tend to have chipped/cracked edges. The cracking can run into the face of the anvil.

2002年5月20日 · I see the same weld line as gwilson, but this is not a defect at all! Just the way good anvils were made back then. Hard steel face on softer iron body. Google is your friend, old anvil research is frustrating but usually succeeds with some patience. Looks a lot like my Hay-Budden, it's a sweet anvil. Mount it on a nice wooden block and enjoy!

2005年6月18日 · Many anvils are not as old as people think- the mass market for anvils peaked in the early 20th century, and while earlier anvils certainly are out there, the vast majority are from 1890-1920 or so. Older anvils dont look "anvil-like" as the classic anvil shape is actually a design from England for export in the latter half of the 19th century.

2007年4月12日 · I bought an old anvil that was spiked to a stump at a farmhouse. I figured it was a 100 pound anvil and wouldn't be a problem, but after moving it, a 100 pounds is heavier when you are 51 verses what it was ten years ago. Its pretty beat up but I figure if anyone could identify it, you guys could. Thanks i_r_

2007年6月11日 · The company made ten sizes of anvils, ranging in size from 10 pounds to 800 pounds. They were very much like the Swedish anvils, being made from electric furnace cast steel. All of their anvils were cast, the face was machined and then hardened, the face was then ground after hardening. All of the Columbian anvils were marked with the letter "C".

2004年6月12日 · The big question with an unknown anvil is what it is made of. SOme anvils were, unfortunately, made as solid ductile iron castings. New imported anvils are simply plain cast iron. Neither will take weld for a repair. Older anvils were made by forging wrought iron for the bodies and forge welding on tool steel faces.
