Jun 1, 2009 · That code used to come up semi frequently on the last '98 STS I had. The consensus seems to be something about hairline cracks or crack in the evaporative emissions control canister. I don't know if the 00+ cars have the same system but it is a strong possibility.

Jul 31, 2016 · If something's fishy, the code sets. You can clear it with a scanner, but it will come back as soon as the system hiccups again. Overfilling the tank would clear out as soon as fuel level dropped in the filler neck and/or the designed airspace "dome" on the fuel tank cleared of excess fuel. Vacuum/pressure sets that code, not excess fuel.

Aug 8, 2023 · For your code ist 1, 3, 4 and 5 common... The system only makes that code when the car is sitting, because the check procedures runs only on certain conditions. I think fuel tank must be filled 3/4 and only after cold engine start. Thats why the code comes only sometimes.

I've noticed lately that I have trouble filling the gas tank on any thing but slow feed. This problem is new. It wasn't always like this. If I try to fill the tank on moderate or fast speeds the pump shuts off.

Aug 31, 2019 · Had a P0442 code pop up today, a quick bit of research shows it could be the fuel cap (seems tight enough), fuel vapor hose, fuel tank pressure sensor (although this says it would also have other problems) or most commonly the EVAP canister purge valve. The cars driving fine, certainly nothing noticable.

Mar 25, 2020 · Some years of the Escalade/GMC/Chevy truck series had real troubles with the charcoal retainer screens in the canister breaking and allowing charcoal granules into the vent/purge lines. Charcoal granules got sucked/blown throughout the entire pressure/vacuum system, causing all sorts of fuel fill and trouble code problems.
