You are right in making sure the art you cross-train in compliments Aikido well. Things that do: Certain Karate styles such as Shito Ryu and Goju Ryu.

We usually have a barbeque after testing, or order a number pizzas and each person kicks in approximately $5.00 for the meal.

These ranks are called kyu ranks. In the IAF and USAF, kyu ranks are not usually distinguished by colored belts. Other organizations (and some individual dojo) may use some system of colored belts to signify kyu ranks, however. There is a growing number of aikido organizations and each has its own set of standards for ranking.
