2009年10月29日 · Layering the rice hulls over the false bottom is the wrong way to use them. You are correct they are supposed to be mixed into the mash to help keep it loose and the grain in suspension. I too at first thought that it would be best to cover the false bottom with the rice hulls.

2008年12月12日 · More a question than anything....Since normal rice requires a cereal mash to actually get it to convert...and the purpose of rice hulls is to use something that doesn't ferment to keep the run off loose, just like high fiber bran does in our intestine to keep us "loose" as well.....

2024年4月25日 · I have settled on 0.040” gap for standard malts. My biggest takeaway from this mill is how well the husk is left intact and not ripped or shredded. My perception is I get no unintentional grainy flavor that always bugged me before with my old mill (MM3). Another plus, I don’t need rice hulls anymore, even for NEIPAs (>20% flaked oats or wheat).

2011年1月25日 · wheat malt has plenty of enzymes to convert itself and then some. it shouldnt require any extra time. either use rice hulls or the BIAB technique to help with a stuck mash. a brief (15mins or so) rest around 110F (beta-glucanase rest) will help with lautering. like nateo mentioned, its tough to crush well, so you may need to mill it twice.

2011年4月12日 · I believe it is best to cook your rice ( not minute rice) in a larger pot and use more than twice the amount of water to make a oatmeal/cereal style for mashing and keep it soupy. 20 min for cooking, also adjust strike water temp to adjust for temp of the rice soup, mine when added jumped to 160 and had to cool it down fast to 150.
