2010年11月7日 · Three of them I was able to re-tap but the fourth was a mess. Instead of being a tapped 16mm hole it was chewed out to a oval, 28 x 18mm. I thought I'd be clever and fill the hole with weld and then drill and re-tap. All went well until the tapping stage. It's destroying my tap! Tearing off the tops of the cutters.

2022年4月27日 · Weld will be tough to drill and re-thread. It might be done, but not as original steel. Your best bet is to use a Thread repair kit such as helicoil. But to answer your other question. You can drill the old damaged threads out to enlarge the hole. You can then weld the hole shut, then drill and tap.

2023年7月2日 · Get a good weld in then redrill and tap. Tapping in mixed material can be chancy. Use a bigger drill to to make the hole large enough for a larger thread. Install the correct size keensert or helicoil. Preferably talk to your Quality Control guy first lol.

Otherwise you will have problems with contaminates and porosity. Those pockets of contaminates will wreak havoc with your tap. Keep it clean or you will have a busted tap stuck in it

2023年9月2日 · Doing a quick re-drill or spiral ream with the tap diameter would probably be a good idea as well, just to help re-round the hole and remove any material that's below the cutting flutes of the tap. Thinwall bungs are only good for tig welding to thin wall tubes.

It just fires the torch to make a "punch" mark to where you are going to drill and tap the holes. Then get a carbided drill yourself to drill the hole, then tap.
