2020年5月31日 · RWD ICE with snow tires tied with FWD ICE with all seasons. The even distribution of weight and very low center of gravity helps winter driving immensely. Given the choice of AWD or dedicated snow tires, I’ll take winter tires every time. They aren’t just for snow, they handle the cold better than all season tires.

All season tyres or winter tyres make a huge difference as the rubber works much better at temperatures lower than 7 degrees and the tread will pick up snow (snow sticks to snow well) therefore aiding traction.

The vehicles mostly rely on the rear motor for most of the drive, the front motor is usually only engaged when the vehicle detects it needs more torque/traction. We had a Model Y for an entire winter season in Alaska (6 months of snow) and it is an amazing vehicle to drive during winter.

I am very shocked, I thought with all of the tech that it is supposed to have, 3,000 miles on the tyres which have plenty of tread as the car is only 6 months old and 4 wheel drive, that it would be a rock star on the snow, total opposite.

I do have snow tires but (ironically) the one time I had to go to service centre in Quebec City I left here 20 C ( about 70F). 3 weeks later I retrieved my car. It was snowing heavily in NewBrunswick. My winter tires were in my garage. The car is was fine but better with snow tires.

2018年5月14日 · For winter driving, AWD, hands down. I have 4wd truck and wife has 2wd van. She is afraid to drive in the winter so she either drives my truck or have me drive her. Even for those in warmer climate, AWD is always helpful. Apparently, you could get into a pickle if your rear wheel hit the slick part when launching a boat.

2020年12月30日 · Yeah I think the off-road mode may make a bigger difference here over the snow tires - the RWD bias of the Model Y seems to affect stability a lot in the snow - but turning on off-road makes things a lot more stable. I actually felt more confident with my FWD Prius w/snow tires before turning on off-road mode.

2021年7月7日 · 1) All wheel drive trims are faster. 2) All wheel drive trims have different battery cells chemistry. Rear wheel uses LFP chemistry which is a topic you can look up to see benefits vs. cons. 3) Rear wheel trims have lower range currently.
