2012年3月9日 · Randall's stainless is 440b I believe which isn't anything special. O1 is my favorite blade steel. Unfortunately Randall makes both their steels quite soft. Don't think they'd hold an edge particularly well compared to other knives. Unless you're absolutely stuck on a Randall I'd suggest commissioning a knife from one of the excellent makers here.

1999年1月5日 · Whenever people talk about Randall's stainless steel blade, they always refer to it as 440B, Joe's steel FAQ included. According to Randall's catalogue (page 29, 31st printing), their stainless steel blade is made from "a special high carbon (1.00%) stainless steel".

2012年3月19日 · I have owned ABS Master-rated smith blades which might have done this, but few others. In the handforged world, a Randall has been and is a low-end-of-medium-price knife. I am astounded, and even more so by this performance with 440B/C range steel.

2001年2月1日 · Randall doesn't use 440b; rather they use a steel which they describe as comparable to 440b. 440b has less carbon than 440c and more carbon than 440a. One cannot forge some stainless steels, such as BG42, because they require an oxygen free atmosphere beyond certain temperatures.

2000年11月1日 · I would be surprised if Randall is forging their stainless steel (440B) blades. SS is a lot more work to forge than Carbon steel. My now ancient #1 has an O1 blade. It is still sharp for a LONG time after use and has done just about everything I could ask for a knife.
