PV, one of the financial functions, calculates the present value of a loan or an investment, based on a constant interest rate. You can use PV with either periodic, constant payments (such as a mortgage or other loan), or a future value that's your investment goal.
NPV function - Microsoft Support
Calculates the net present value of an investment by using a discount rate and a series of future payments (negative values) and income (positive values). Syntax NPV(rate,value1,[value2],...)

NPV calculates that present value for each of the series of cash flows and adds them together to get the net present value. The formula for NPV is: Where n is the number of cash flows, and i is the interest or discount rate. IRR is based on NPV.
Using Excel formulas to figure out payments and savings
The present value is the total amount that a series of future payments is worth now. FV returns the future value of an investment based on periodic, constant payments and a constant interest rate. Figure out the monthly payments to pay off a credit card debt. Assume that the balance due is $5,400 at a 17% annual interest rate.
NPER function - Microsoft Support
The present value, or the lump-sum amount that a series of future payments is worth right now. Fv Optional. The future value, or a cash balance you want to attain after the last payment is made. If fv is omitted, it is assumed to be 0 (the future value of a loan, for example, is 0). Type Optional.

Syntax. CUMIPMT (rate, nper, pv, start_period, end_period, type) The CUMIPMT function syntax has the following arguments: Rate Required. The interest rate. Nper Required. The total number of payment periods. Pv Required. The present value. Start_period Required. The first period in the calculation. Payment periods are numbered beginning with 1.

An array or a reference to cells that contain numbers for which you want to calculate the internal rate of return.
