HMS Victory housed in Portsmouth Dockyard's No 2 dry dock, was built between 1759 and 1765 at Chatham Dockyard in Kent. Designed by Sir Thomas Slade, the Senior Surveyor of the Royal Navy with a final cost of £63,176. The Victory lay at moorings for 13 years after being built due to a period of relative peace.

Using photographs in the Dockyard Museum Collection from the 1940s and 1950s, we show how the Dockyard has changed over time, transforming it from a historic ruin to an internationally recognized heritage site.

Our visit to Nelson’s Dockyard was part of a morning excursion from Pineapple Beach Club with Pink Panther Antigua Safaris (a tour I’d highly recommend for a whistlestop tour of Antigua’s key sights!)
