Got a customer, owner of a the biggest cabinetry maker in the area, and he requested me to cut up as wide as possible 2" thick live edge green maple slabs. Now, I am cutting 48"+ slabs, and I am planning on cutting 18 or so 30-48"+ 6-8ft slabs from a 1 or a couple of logs.

2012年1月21日 · Cedar is totally different than hardwood. Best log is second log up the tree, not butt log usually. Best and highest value wood is heart wood , not the out side of tree. Remember knots no defect. Nebraska has lots of cedar. Part of the plains that has seen cedar grow by leaps and bounds since fire is not part of the landscape any more.

Vacuum Kilns in Cincinnati OH, Lexington KY, Louisville KY area
Been out of the sawing business for a while. Have a daughter (creative type) who wants to try building some live edge furniture. Thinking of starting with 2" to 3" thick ERC. Or, possibly some black walnut. Anyone have, or can recommend someone with, a vacuum kiln in the North Central KY, SW Ohio, SE Indiana region ?

2022年5月5日 · On the opening cut, I center the pith, find the top edge of the cant, count up 1x or 2x to were I'm just above the log and decide whether to make a cut or hit the down switch before making a cut. I used to search for every board in a log, but realized I was cutting more dirt/bark and wasting time on low quality boards.

To arrive at a 3 sided cant quickly, a cheat sheet was essential to keep my "ciphering Jethro Bodine" in check (pauses to calculate in my head). It also helped get the third face final cut (siding width) at the right height above the deck without a trim cut.
