2010年6月6日 · I use boiled linseed on just about any wooden tool/implement I own that doesn't touch my food or mouth. I usually just put it on pretty thick and massage it in with rubber gloves. Then after letting it sit for 10-15 mins, I wipe the excess off and buff it with shop towels before the excess dries and congeals on the surface.

2020年8月1日 · Boiled linseed oil isn’t boiled at all, it just has drying agents in it. In fact boiling linseed oil results in polymerized linseed oil. But that is done under special conditions. I’m not sure what boiling linseed oil at home would do but it does sound like a fire hazard.

One of the issues with many modern substitutes for the oil cloth of long ago is that today's products are often coated with vinyl or other synthetics that out-gas significant amounts of harmful chemicals.

2010年6月12日 · I would not use linseed oil. My first choice would be Obenauf's Heavy Duty Leather Perservative, followed by Fiebling's Snow-Proof Weatherproofing, and, lastly, mink oil. Careful with the mink oil, though, it might make the sheath softer. A lot of people use bees wax, or some mixture thereof, but I think it's easier to use a commercial product.

2012年1月5日 · I then fill in the gaps to my liking. Lightly sand then use some leather dye to color the handle to my liking. I then use boiled linseed oil and coat it often for days then buff it out. I also blue patterns, like damascus etc, into the head of the axe. Make a cover for the blade. Then it looks so good I hate to use it.
