Use the turbines to power battery-using weapons (railguns, PACs, and plasma, etc). Use the piston engine to run the ship (propellers, shields, etc) and for lasers. It can be cute to slap an electric engine on the batteries as a backup.

2021年5月6日 · I'll set up a working steam engine, and connect some shafts together and hook it up to a corresponding transmission. I make sure everything is connected, it is, the front end of the transmission is spinning, etc, but the back end won't spin. I'll give the main drive power but the transmission refuses to spin, its really confusing.

Steam engines are pretty simple. And they are much more power dense than fuel. But they are very very inefficient. They burn material at a high rate, and a good refinery can convert a small amount of material to a lot of fuel. With steam, high burn rate = high pressure, and high pressure = high max power output.
