2016年7月21日 · I was looking at my requirements and saw this, "Students must complete at least six credit hours in the formal sciences, i.e., mathematics, computer science, formal logic, or statistics." I need one more class to get it satisfied, I looked for a list of classes that meet this requirements online and couldn't find any.

2015年5月8日 · The first is its etymological meaning, "Knowledge". The second is the one I mentioned before, the study of an object with scientific method. Math and formal science do satisfied the first definition, but they are defined as a formal science pretty much since the term science is used mostly for the second definition! What to think about that?

2010年1月4日 · If this wiki definition is the definition of formal science you were referring to in your original post, then it looks to me like there is no need for a formal science to generate testable predictions. It merely must consist of a bunch of axioms, a formal language and inference rules. The axioms need not have any testable connection to reality.

Furthermore, there is relatively little to distinguish math from theoretical physics, save for the specific subject of study. The debate of math being a science or not is akin to the philosophical debate about math being discovered or invented.
