Feb 8, 2011 · There are cutters designed for EMT. If I use a standard cutter, I just stop short and snap the conduit to minimize the edge. I still find the hack saw or sawsall the easiest way to cut conduit. To much effort to spin the cutter around. I only use it when there are conductors in place.

Apr 21, 2004 · Re: Cutting EMT with tubing cutter A hacksaw is faster. Get one of the Klien conduit reamer screwdrivers, it deburrs the inside and outside of the cut EMT. A tubing cutter leaves a bigger ridge and is harder to remove.

Feb 23, 2022 · Like a pipe cutter, it is easy to get a square cut. There's one wheel for 1/2" and 3/4" EMT, and one for 1", the second wheel stores in the butt of the handle. I like it quite a bit better for 3/4" and 1/2" than 1". Not all EMT is created equal, the thickness of the metal varies. If the EMT is heavy, it doesn't score enough to break easily.

Jan 26, 2011 · I tried the Greenlee cutter and found that it was more apt to leave a ridge inside the emt. I use a regular tubing cutter. Just like S'mise said-score part way through and snap it. If you don't go to deep there is a rounded edge inside, no burr, and it is nice and square. Also, a tubing cutter fits in my tool pouch much better than a hacksaw.

Jul 8, 2016 · Ridgid makes a close quarters tubing cutter that can physically cut 3/4" EMT, but it is the silver aluminum body style and they aren't rated for steel, like EMT. It will physically do it, just have to take your time and it will go through cutter wheels, so buy extra when you buy the cutter.
