DUNLAP COKE OVENS
2024年6月1日 · The Historic Dunlap Coke Ovens Park is an 88-acre tree shaded park located in the heart of Sequatchie County, in Dunlap, Tennessee. Come explore the remains of 268 beehive coke ovens used in the early 1900’s to convert mountain coal into industrial coke, a product used to smelt iron ore.
History - Coke Ovens
In 1899, a coal mine was opened on Fredonia Mountain overlooking Dunlap, Tennessee. For the next quarter century, the mining operations grew into an industrial complex that contributed greatly to the thriving economy and evolving social structure of a small town.

Museum - Coke Ovens
Today it is called the Dunlap Coke Ovens Museum, and is dedicated in memory of Mr. Gray. The museum currently houses the largest collection of regional historic coal mining photographs in the state of Tennessee.

The Historic trail route climbs steeply out from Coke Ovens Amphitheater The Dunlap Coke Ovens Trail of Tears original route is on the National Register of Historic Places as the Taylor Detachment camped at the site in 1838.

The museum is open only during summer months and only on the weekends dependent on volunteer-guided or self-guided walking tour around the Coke Ovens Park offers the visitor an opportunity to spend some time walking through the quiet woods discovering the ruins of a once great industrial complex.
