The BCCA hosts its national CANvention every year, and similarly, many chapters host at least one local brewery collectibles event per year.

BCCA was started by beer can collectors in 1970. A Miller beer can from the late 1930s; note opening instructions (OI) on the back of the can. BCCA members collect and preserve items like OI cans for their rarity and historic value.

This organization is the legacy of our late friend and founder Warren Hardaker, a devout collector of antique beer cans with a passion for locating them in abandoned dumpsites. Dump-digging for rare old beer cans was, in fact, the very essence of the Rusty Bunch at its conception.

On April 15, 1970 they formed the BCCA, the Beer Can Collectors of America. The BCCA grew rapidly. In September 1971 the BCCA held its first Convention, soon renamed a CANvention, and had over 300 members.

Back then though, it was called the Beer Can Collectors of America. By the end of 1971, the BCCA boasted 304 members, from 17 states and Canada. Overseas members, some from as far away as Australia and New Zealand, have attended every one of its annual CANventions in the last two decades.

Founded in St. Louis in 1971, the BCCA has dozens of affiliate chapters. It was originally named the "Beer Can Collectors of America". It sponsors numerous shows for beer can collectors throughout the year, and it publishes a very nice magazine, Beer Cans and Breweriana Collectibles, which comes out six times a year.
