Please corroborate my findings if you can: A 61" staircase is about the minimum width necessary to achieve the 26" code minimum distance between the railing and the center pole; The opening for this staircase should be about 4" larger than the staircase size, i.e., about 65" inches

Well I really want to add stairs from inside the home down to the basement and am wondering if this is something I can do myself from a cost stand point.

The only way I can make the basement staircase code is to increase the main staircase to 44" wide which takes a lot out of an already small bedroom.

2008年9月5日 · Any electrician could set you up with the auto shut offs. The way they gear whiches you wouldn't drop liike a rockif the power went out, you just get lowered back to the basement. You could build something a hell of a lot more interesting than a 1/4 turn spiral staircse, that would be a ***** to climb up anyway. You could change it around.

2015年4月25日 · Home has 8 foot ceilings. Need staircase from main floor to basement. Existing staircase is not to code (1960 home) and is an L shape. New design requires a winder U shape. What is the minimum floor cutout needed for the staircase? The drop from main floor to basement floor is 112 inches (9.3 feet) There is currently two existing landings.

If I framed in that wall , the staircase would be 24” wide, currently the space from concrete block to end of floor is 30”. Please see picture. Also, there is a staircase directly above this going upstairs the 2x4s on left are holding it up.
