I feel it'd be much more 'in-tone' if The Company of Thorin Oakenshield encountered him instead, and/or he was RESTRICTED to 'The Adventures of Tom Bombadil', which appears in Tales From the Perilous Realm. I like Tom - but he does NOT belong in The Lord of the Rings.

Although my own problem with Modernism comes from post-modern analyses of the world, that similar conflict makes me really enjoy Tom Bombadil. Maybe you will too, one day.
