I have a solution to solve this though. perhaps the rope could have a length dependent on the number of rope items in inventory, and players could lower the rope from say a 64 block drop, such as in a ravine.

A sort of temporary ladder. Finally the rope (grapple) need to have a limited duration for balance ( probably a short... maybe limited to one).
