Winter is winding down as the sun sets later each day, but nothing says spring like the day we spring the clocks forward. Under the current daylight saving period, most Americans will lose an hour on the second Sunday of March and gain an hour on the first Sunday of November.

Here's when daylight savings time starts and ends this year and what would happen around the country if it ends permanently in 2025.

In March, millions of Americans will turn their clocks forward, marking the start of daylight saving time in 2025. The controversial practice of "springing forward" and "falling back" has been observed in most states for decades.

While most states, Arizona — with the exception of the Navajo Nation — and Hawaii do not partake in daylight saving time. The U.S. territories of Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, and the U.S. Virgin Islands also forgo the twice-yearly changing of the clocks.

A Republican lawmaker who represents parts of six rural Nevada counties is sponsoring a bill to take the state off daylight saving time — one of the 200 bills written so far.
