The Anschluss (the annexation of Austria into Nazi Germany in 1938) was welcomed by many Austrians; they believe that Germany would rescue the county from high unemployment and poverty.

Austria intends to start deporting Afghans with criminal records directly to their home country. The decision comes after Germany repatriated 28 convicted criminals to Afghanistan on Friday.

Bavaria thus joined Austria where nearly a million voters signed a petition in January, demanding the closure of the controversial plant, located close to the border with Germany and Austria.
