Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said a man died Monday after hot asphalt poured on top of the man at a worksite. The incident happened around 10:30 a.m. at AJ Materials in the 1000 block of East McDowell Road in Jackson.

Darrell Sheriff was underneath a dump truck working on a hydraulic line when the tailgate opened and asphalt fell on him, Jackson police said.

Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said authorities arrived on scene to find the victim, a private contractor, "buried under hot asphalt."
