It says that York dungeons close at 4pm for a wednesday, yet they allow you to book for 4pm? Looking to book at 3:30 but not sure how that's going to work out, or what time the tours actually finish

They just close the doors at 4pm. They always finish the tours. Takes just over an hour. Well worth a visit.
Can youleave at any time if you need to? I'm bringing my 14 yo she loves this kind of thing, me not so much but hoping I can man up enough. But like to know I can leave if I really needed to.

Because of the dark, I would say yes, it does feel quite claustrophobic in places. The rooms you stand in are fairly big but it really does depend on the person's fears and also the size of the group you are put with. You walk through the whole thing with your group and stop in each room for the different stories, standing generally whilst there although there are some rooms you are able to sit briefly. If you still have concerns, give the Dungeon a call and they will explain further.
