The museum is significant because it is the place where photography started, and the displays cover why and how that happened at about an O level standard. It is not a massive museum and doesn't list the many attempts which failed(by contrast to Edison's lab at Dearborn), the thought process to making this breakthrough( by contrast to Jenner's house and vaccination) or which books in the library were relevant (by contrast to which books CS Lewis used at the Kilns or Churchill at Chartwell). This shouldn't stop you going a long distance to see the museum, but don't anticipate spending many hours there.
