We are thinking of flying to Durban in July and visiting our friends there before going to Krugers Park. They offered that instead of taking a flight north to use their car and drive. What do I need to know about such a trip? Would it be safe? Would you recommend to do it?

It is quite safe to drive to the Kruger, but be sure to make any stops at recommended gas stations or stops. Also Africa is full of interesting driving due to crazy minibus drivers who seém to have different rules. There are huge potholes everywhere and road surfaces can be poor. If you go by road, you must take the scenic route up through the Blyde River Canyon. It is quite breathtaking. If you stop in any of the towns shopping centres for a break, there will be guys in the car park looking after the cars while you dine. Be sure to give a small tip
